My name is Emma. I'm sixteen years old.

I'm going to tell you about my family.

My father is an architect.

He has designed many large buildings in the city.

My mother is the curator of the museum in our town.

There are many interesting displays in the museum.

I have a brother called Philip who is still at school.

He is twelve years old.

And a sister who is a student at the university.

She is studying to be a lawyer.

Next month she will be twenty-one and we will have a party to celebrate.

I'm sure we will enjoy ourselves.

I have an aunt who lives in New York, so we are looking forward to visiting her this summer.

My uncle lives very near to us.

There are two ways of saying something that will happen in the future.

For example:

I will tell you a story.

I'm going to tell you a story.

and

I will keep the key in my pocket.

I'm going to keep the key in my pocket.

Don't confuse "going to do something" with the verb "to go".

 Swallowtail butterfly    Practise saying the future tense of these verbs in two ways.

 Bumblebee    I will stop the car.
I'm going to stop the car.

I will change my shoes.

I'm going to change my shoes.

I will enjoy my dinner.

I'm going to enjoy my dinner.

I will paint the house red.

I'm going to paint the house red.

I will wait for the bus.

I'm going to wait for the bus.

I will see my friend tomorrow.

I'm going to see my friend tomorrow.

I will walk to school.

I'm going to walk to school.

I will need an umbrella.

I'm going to need an umbrella.

I will apply for a job.

I'm going to apply for a job.

I will eat the salad.

Remember

Instead of saying "I will", you can say "I'll".

Go back and say the above sentences using "I'll" instead of "I will".

For Example

I'll stop the car.

I'll change my shoes.

I'll enjoy my dinner.

. . . . . . .

You carry on saying the remainder yourself.

Some words have silent syllables.

How many syllables does the word 'vegetable' have?   The middle 'e' is silent, so 'vegetable' only has 3 syllables.

When a word has several syllables, one or more of the syllables is spoken with more emphasis or 'stress' than the others.
