The Theatre
If you wish to see a play, opera, ballet, musical or pop concert, you should book your ticket in advance.Many young people go in groups to the pub where they can chat and have a drink. They may go to a club where they can dance. They will have to pay an entrance fee and the drinks will probably be more expensive than in the pub.

If someone is celebrating a birthday, an engagement or if someone has passed their exams, they may go to a restaurant for a meal.
Listen to this conversation at the table when the waiter is taking
the orders.
Waiter: Good evening Madam, what would you like to order?Jane: To start with, I'd like soup and a roll please.
Waiter: We have vegetable soup and tomato soup. Which would you like?
Jane: I'd like the chicken breast with a mixed salad.
Waiter: That comes with a jacket potato or fries. Which would you like?
Waiter: Anything to drink Madam?
Jane: Yes! I'd like a glass of white wine please.
Waiter: Would you prefer red or white? We have a very nice house red and a choice of medium or dry white. Or would you like to see the wine list?
Jane: No, . . er . . your dry house white would be fine thanks.
Waiter: Thank you Madam. And you Sir?
Tony: I think I'll have prawn cocktail as a starter. Then I'll have the steak with green beans and potatoes.
Tony: Oh yes, can I have a pint of lager please?
Waiter: Thank you Sir. I'll bring the drinks first and then your meal will follow soon.

Note that instead of telephoning someone, you can phone them,
ring them or call them.

Donna: I got a 2,1. It's such a relief that it's all over now. How about you?
Donna: Congratulations! What are you going to do now?
Adam: I'm not sure yet. I'd like to work for one of the big computer companies, but don't let's worry about that now! How about coming out with me tonight to celebrate?
Adam: There's a gig on at the Students Union. The 'Whopper Whams' are playing live.
Donna: Sounds Great. Tony and Gemma are going I think. Perhaps we should make a foursome!
Adam: OK, we'll have a good laugh with them. Meet you at half past eight then, outside the Union.
Donna: Fine, I'll look forward to that. See you later then. 'Bye!
