Use
Windows Media Player
, not the 'Media Bar' player.
( If you use the 'Media Bar' player you have to
Refresh
the page when you want to use the Index. )
Make Windows media Player as small as possible
and then move it out of sight to the bottom of the screen where it does not interfere with the Speaking English text.
Shuffle
and
Repeat
must be off.
Windows Media Player version 10
Access the Application Menus (click the small arrow in the top right-hand corner of the Player).
Go to View and then Skin Chooser.
Choose '
Revert
', which is the smallest skin.
Move it to the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (just leave the title bar showing).
Windows Media Player version 7.01
Choose the
Miniplayer
skin.
1. To make Windows Media Player small, apply the
Miniplayer
skin.
How to apply the
Miniplayer
skin (version 7.01).
1. Click 'Skin Chooser'.
2. Click 'Miniplayer'.
3. Click 'Apply Skin'.
4. Move the 'Miniplayer' and the 'Anchor',
to the corners of the screen.
Windows Media Player 'Help' will give instructions for 'Applying a skin'.
2. In the 'Play' menu make sure that
Shuffle
and
Repeat
are off.
How to run Speaking English
Downloaded Speaking English Free Lessons and Courses are self-unzipping '
.exe
' files.
Just
double-click
the 'Free.exe' or 'Course.exe' file and follow the on-screen instructions to have the Free Lesson or Course installed on your computer.
Speaking English lessons run from your computer's '
Start
' button.
Go to:-
Start » Programs » Speaking English » Free Lesson/Course.
Working off-line
Click 'File' at the top left-hand corner of the Browser screen.
Click 'Work Offline'.
If you get a 'Dial-up Connection' window click 'Cancel' and 'Work Offline'.
To find the best size of text for Speaking English lessons.
Click 'View' on the top bar of your Browser, scroll down to 'Text Size' and then move to the right where you can choose between
Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller
and
Smallest
text sizes.
To find a word in a lesson use '
Ctrl+F
' on your keyboard.
Restoration of lesson colours
When you first click on something in a lesson it changes to the 'Active Link' colour and then it changes to the 'Visited Link' colour when you click on something else.
The 'Visited Link' colours will remain for the number of days set in the '
History
' list in your Browser.
To reduce the number of days go to 'Tools - Internet Options -
General
' and change the '
Days to keep pages in history
'.
If you set the days to zero (0) the colours will be restored within 24 hours.
The 'Full Screen' option available in Speaking English lessons
To get the maximum possible viewing area for your Speaking English lessons click 'Full Screen' in the Index.
To return to the usual screen hold down the '
Alt
' key on your keyboard and press the '
F4
' key.
Caution
: Pressing those keys
in
the usual screen may close your Browser.
